Anakena Single Vineyard Riesling 2009 Rapel Valley, Chile This stinks of the sea. Osyters and seaweed. Zesty lime juice and a slightly bitter finish. June 2012

Chateau Montelena Chardonnay 2009 California, USA  Oh dear. Not the wine I remember. Was looking for crispness and definition but all I found was sweetness and blowsiness. November 2012

Chateau Montelena Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 California, USA This suffers the same fate as the chardonnay. Overly ripe. Very sweet cassis. Rounded and silky. Doesn’t grab me. November 2012

Cline Cellars Small Berry Mourvedre 1999 California, USA The fruit for this wine comes from a single acre of 100 year old Mourverdre vines. An absolute blast of menthol and eucalyptus tears at your olfactory senses. There's liquroice and dark, sweet plum fruit wrapped up in this absolute delight of a wine too. Probably at the peak of its powers, the tannins are polished by time and the acidity fresh. March 2013

Familia Zuccardi ‘Q’ Malbec 2010 Mendoza, Argentina Very deep purple colour. Jammy aromas with prune juice and alcohol. Fresher, more structured than the Tempranillo. Very good concentration with a pleasant oaky finish. October 2012

Familia Zuccardi ‘Q’ Tempranillo 2010 Mendoza, Argentina Lots of American Oak. Blackberry fruit but wants for complexity. Ribera (nor Ribena) will not be running scared quite yet. Polished. October 2012

Los Vascos Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 Colchugua Valley, Chile Cassis and smokey chocolate. Cigar and mint. Soft tannin. No hard edges here. The concentration is good. A charming wine in many respects and would be interesting to follow it's future development. November 2012

Luigi Bosca Gala 1 2009 Mendoza, Argentina Malbec, Petit Verdot and Tannat. Yikes, I am scared already, just by reading the grape composition.  14 months in oak. Very fresh nose actually with sweet oak, ripe blueberries and violets. Boiled sweets and liquorice. A little heat comes through on the palate which is rich and succulent with not yet fully resolved tannin. Enter a rare, juicy char-grilled steak into the bargain and this would be one heck of a good idea. November 2012

O. Fournier Urban Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 Maule Valley, Chile Ripe blackcurrant and oak. Some depth. Well-executed and balanced. Quite grippy finish. March 2013

O. Fournier Urban Malbec 2010 Mendoza, Argentina Alcoholic heat. Chlorine and cherry throat pastilles. Light berry fruit. Hot. June 2012

Penalolen Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 Maipo, Chile Smashed blackcurrants and beetroot. A bit cooked. The green notes suggest that I would be personally unwise to try the estate's 100% Cab Franc. However, good concentration and a lush texture. Coffee. Maybe it's not Bordeaux I've fallen out of love with, but Bordeaux varietals? November 2012

Ridge Geyserville 2008 California, USA Liquorice, sherbet dip. Sweet raspberry and dust. Intense, yet fresh on the palate. Sweet cherry, a little boozy, but so, so soft. Chocolate. Excellent concentration. Long, but requires better grip. A naughty treat. October 2012

Santa Rita Gran Hacienda Sauvignon Blanc 2007 Nose of nettles and fresh cut grass.  The palate is thin, insipid even. Dull. January 2009

Sean Thackrey Pleiades Lot XIX NV California, USA A blend of Sangiovese, Viognier, Mourvedre, Syrah, Petit Sirah and more...! Intense cherry, Dr. Pepper and a touch of nail polish remover. A senusal texture, velvety and svelte. Quite sweet fruit, but balanced and utterly delicious. June 2012

Sean Thackrey Sirius 2007 California, USA Petit Sirah. Sloe gin, vintage port and eucalyptus. Ripe, very concentrated blueberry fruit. Oak. Boozy, but beautifully crafted. This is super stylish, lush and rich.
